FIRST Robotics Mission Statement

Our mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership”.

Northern Force Team 172 Mission Statement

“Our mission is to work together as students, mentors, and families to learn and build, build and learn, teaching each other with patience and respect, and to compete well with our peers from every other team with confidence and gracious professionalism, helping and learning from each other in the process.”

The Falmouth and Gorham high school robotics team allows students, mentors, and their family members to work toward a common goal of designing, building, marketing, and operating a competitive robot in a business-like environment while supporting the ideals of FIRST. Students work side-by-side with professional mentors and parents to design, build, and program a 120-pound robot in a six week build season, with additional clinics and post-season events occurring throughout the year.

FIRST sponsors an annual robotics competition that pairs up professionals from companies or universities with high schools to encourage students to pursue careers in science and engineering. FIRST began in 1992 with 28 teams and in 2020 had over 3,900 teams internationally. Click this link to learn more about FIRST.
