What Is Industry 4.0, Anyway?

If you’ve been to a trade show or read an op-ed on manufacturing in the past few years, chances are you’ve seen the terms ‘Industry 4.0’ and ‘fourth industrial revolution’. Depending on whom you ask, these connote a fundamental shift in the global manufacturing sector or empty buzzwords dreamt up by marketers and PR firms. Not surprisingly, the truth lies somewhere in between.

There will be a shortage of one million STEM workers in the next five years

Preparing students for work requires revised approach to education – Autumn A. Arnett, Education Dive

P.K. Agarwal, regional dean and CEO of Northeastern University–Silicon Valley said there will be a shortage of one million STEM workers in the next five years. So the challenge, he said, is taking people with bachelor’s degrees and re-skilling them to fill those gaps. At Northeastern, the approach is to not just equip students with additional credentials but to provide six months of paid workforce experience through a co-op program to help ensure graduates are ready to hit the ground running once they’re hired. He identified three key things students should leave college having. “You need high-quality experiential learning, that’s one leg of the stool. The second part is that you need a network, … and third is that we also are very passionate about the fact that soft skills are very critical,” Agarwal said. https://www.educationdive.com/news/preparing-students-for-work-requires-revised-approach-to-education/517738/

Team 172 Wins its First Match!!!!

Team 172’s Blue Alliance scores big during the first official match of the 2018 season. Our bot scored well by using its ability to dominate the scale at any height. Although the bot didnt get a chance to try to levitate itself this game, the team is excited about next round!

Wednesday Build Session Cancelled (Lanco) – Sunday Build Crew Candidates Needed (FMS)

2/7/2018:   Both Gorham and Falmouth have early dismissals today in consideration of the coming storm.  In that light, we are canceling this evening’s (Wednesday) robotics events.

With that said, we are also considering meeting this Sunday afternoon at FHS.  Please let us know your interest and availability.

Stay warm and safe, Mrs Moutinho & Mr Kraljic

Wed Jan 17th -Unfortunately we need to cancel robotics due to the weather.

Team 172,

Unfortunately, we need to cancel robotics due to the weather.

For those subteams that can work at home (design, programming), we hope that you can take advantage of this day off from school to get some robotics work done.  We are now in week 2 and still have a lot to do.

We are both working online this afternoon so if you have any questions, feel free to email.

Stay warm and safe,

Mrs Moutinho & Mr Kraljic
